The God of New Beginnings

Happy New Year!  It’s always great to enter a new year and put the old year behind you.  For some, the past year may have been filled with disappointments, hurts, regrets, and failures.  It’s good to know that God is a God of new beginnings!  The apostle Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things have passed away and new things have come.”  God offers us grace (unconditional love) to meet the needs in our lives.  Grace brings us forgiveness, cleansing, renewal, and new beginnings.  God values each one of us and wants the best for our lives.  No matter what we have gone through or experienced in the past, God can make all things new!  He can take broken lives and heal them.  He can take aimless lives and give them purpose.  He can take ruined lives and remake them for His glory.

Let’s each look forward to the new opportunities and challenges that will come our way in 2008.  I believe 2008 can be our best year ever!  God may have surprises for your life and bring amazing things to you as you trust Him completely.  We must all remember that “nothing is impossible with God.”  Believe that He can make a difference in your life.  Believe that He can turn things around.  Believe that He is working for your good.  Believe that He can help you become the person that He wants you to be.

Let us also affirm the power of the cross of Jesus Christ!  It’s by Christ’s sacrificial death on calvary that we have forgiveness of sins, and can experience the grace of God in our lives.  It’s because of the cross that I can experience a new life and live in God’s will every day.  As we go through each day in this new year, let’s wholeheartedly embrace the cross of Jesus Christ and live in it’s power.

Merry Christmas! A Savior is born!

We celebrate today the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ!  In Jesus, God’s unfathomable love was sent to us in a person.  In Jesus, we see the value that God places upon each one of us, and the length He would go to come to our rescue.  In that tiny manger in Bethlehem’s stable God wrapped up His love for each of us to receive and embrace.  The Bible is very clear in telling us that Jesus Christ is the perfect God-man.  He is fully God, and fully man in one person.  Jesus brings all of God’s love and mercy, kindness, compassion, and forgiveness for us to experience.  How awesome!  How wonderful!

As you spend time today with family and friends, opening gifts, sharing love, playing games, laughing hilariously, enjoying great meals together…I hope that you will also take time to acknowledge the great GIFT that God has given to each one of us today–His Son, Jesus Christ!  Jesus is the reason for the season!  Jesus is the gift that brings life, peace, joy and hope!  If you are struggling this morning with regrets, or failures, or sins that have marred your past–turn to Jesus, this is why He came!  Jesus is the friend of people who have blown it!  Jesus is the friend of people who feel their lives are ruined!  He has amazing grace for anyone who will call upon His name!  He came to bring us forgiveness and a new beginning!  Why not open your heart to Him right now, and receive all that He has for you and wants you to experience!

“Behold, I bring you good news of a great joy.  For to you is born this day, in the city of David, a Savior who is Christ the Lord.”     Luke 2:10
