Last Sunday evening our Launch Team attended Chris Tomlin’s concert in Evansville.  It was awesome!  The concert was truly a worship experience!  It was thrilling seeing the concert hall packed out with people of all ages who had come “to praise the Lord”.  Our group had a great time together and we look forward to seeing more of our friends and community neighbors joining us in this exciting venture of reaching our community with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

If your vision is for a year — plant wheat.

If your vision is for ten years — plant trees.

If your vision is for a lifetime — plant people.

If your vision is for eternity — plant churches.

Liberating Men’s Souls

The great Italian reformer, Garibaldi, gave a fiery speech to thousands of young men urging them to fight for the freedom of their homeland.  One timid young man approached Garibaldi and said, “If I fight, Sir, what will be my reward?”  Without hesitation Garibaldi replied, “Wounds, scars, bruises, and perhaps death.  But remember that through your bruises Italy will be free.”

What are you willing to endure for the Savior in order that men might find salvation?  What sacrifices are you willing to make so that men might be brought out of darkness into God’s glorious light?  GOD WANTS TO USE YOU!!!

Ambassadors for Christ

In 2 Corinthians 5:20 the apostle Paul tells us that Christians are “ambassadors for Christ” in this world.  What an awesome privilege!  What an honor!  Every day we can represent the King of Kings and Lord of Lords with our lives.  What a joy it is to know that by our actions and our words, we can be witnesses for Jesus Christ!  There are so many people around us every day who have no hope, no purpose, or no meaning in their lives.  Many believe there is a “God”, or “higher power” in the universe; but they question whether He can be known, or whether a person can have a relationship with Him.  They struggle everyday thinking, “Is this all there is to life?”  They just drag themselves through life trying to fill the emptiness deep down inside of them.  There is an answer–Jesus Christ!  The good news of the Bible is that Jesus came to bring people God’s love, God’s forgiveness, God’s mercy, and God’s peace.  He came to make us new.  He came “that we might have life and have it more abundantly”  (John 10:10).

The role of an ambassador is to represent their country, or kingdom while serving in another.  The Bible says that though we live on this earth, we are also “citizens of heaven” (Philippians 3:20).  As Christ-followers our role is to serve Jesus Christ in this world, and tell others about His amazing love and grace.  Every day we have the priviledge–at work, at home, at school, on the athletic field, while on buisness–to represent Jesus Christ by our words, our actions, and our character.  Jesus says that those who follow Him are like “salt” (which purifies, and creates thirst) and “light” (which shows the way, and brings hope) in this world.  What an awesome way to think of the influence we can bear, when we are connected with/and living in the power of Jesus Christ everyday!

Will you be an ambassador for Jesus today?  Will you commit to reaching this generation for Jesus?

The Power of Vision

Vision is a powerful thing!  Many people who have been successful and achieved great things were people who had a vision for something that needed to be done.  Abraham caught a vision of how God wanted to use him to be the father of many nations; Isaiah caught a vision of God in worship that changed his life and ministry; Peter was given a vision about how God was accepting non-Jewish people  into His spiritual family; and Paul received a vision that accelerated his evangelistic efforts in Europe.

  • What is vision?  Vision is often defined as having “a mental picture of the future.”  Those with vision know where they’re going!  It is vision that brings motivation, inspiration, strength, boldness, and clarity to the task.  The Bible says, “Without a vision, the people perish (Proverbs 29:18).”  Vision is what helps people stay focused on the mission. We realize that vision is extremely important in a new church plant.  We believe that vision is what drives our effort, our passions, our commitment, and our strategies.  We want to make sure that we are clear about the direction and style of the new work that God has put upon our hearts.

Our vision is to create an environment that is casual and friendly, with worship that is modern and uses culturally-relevant music, Biblical-teaching from the scriptures that relates to everyday life, and a dominant focus on life-change.  That’s it.  Pretty simple, huh.  We especially want to create environments where people who have never been to church, or those who have not been to church in a long time, can feel comfortable coming and learning more about God.  We want to create environments that build a sense of community and belonging.  And most important, environments that will produce contagious followers of Jesus Christ!   This is what we want to be all about!

We believe that it is Jesus who brings life, forgiveness, healing, peace, and hope to our lives.  We believe Jesus is the ANSWER for this generation!  We believe that many in our community do want to know God, but do not like “church”.  Our desire is to provide an “irresistible” setting where many will feel comfortable coming and want to stay.  We believe Jesus is the One who can bring real life-change and prepare us for eternity.

We are excited about Journey Church and the vision that is propelling us to reach our community for Jesus Christ!  If you share this same vision for Christ’s Church in today’s world stop by and check us out.

With Passion,

Dave, Lead Pastor
